Trump publicly urged McMaster to appoint Nordone, calling the move a tribute to Graham, CBS News reported, citing a Truth Social post. The move also starts a fast election clock. Nordone has not held elected office. According to the AP, she has worked as an optician and at several state agencies, including the South Carolina Commission for the Blind and the Department of Employment and Workforce. She lives in Lexington, is a College of Charleston graduate, and earned a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling. Her selection drew on a deeply personal bond: after their parents died when they were young, Lindsey Graham became his sister’s legal guardian, a relationship both AP and Axios note shaped their public lives.
What comes next in the campaign is already taking shape. Axios reported that several South Carolina Republicans are weighing runs for the seat in the accelerated primary.
