Jim DeMint (born September 2, 1951) is an American businessman, author, and former Republican politician who represented South Carolina in the U.S. House (1999–2005) and U.S. Senate (2005–2013). A leading figure in the Tea Party movement, he founded the Senate Conservatives Fund and chaired conservative advocacy groups.
He resigned the Senate on January 2, 2013, to become president of The Heritage Foundation, a post he left in 2017. Since then he has served as a senior advisor to Citizens for Self-Governance and helped found the Conservative Partnership Institute.
