Elizabeth Dole (born July 29, 1936) is an American attorney, author, and Republican politician who represented North Carolina in the U.S. Senate from 2003 to 2009.
She served in five presidential administrations, including as U.S. Secretary of Transportation (1983–1987) and U.S. Secretary of Labor (1989–1990), and led the American Red Cross from 1991 to 1999. Dole was the first woman to serve in two different cabinet posts for different presidents and later chaired the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Nancy Kassebaum (born July 29, 1932) is a retired Kansas politician who served in the U.S. Senate from 1978 to 1997, noted for independent, bipartisan leadership.
