Arthur Joseph Goldberg (August 8, 1908 – January 19, 1990) was an American politician and jurist who served as U.S. secretary of labor and as an associate justice of the Supreme Court. He joined the Court in 1962, aligned with the liberal bloc, and wrote the majority opinion in Escobedo v. Illinois.
Goldberg resigned the Court in 1965 to become U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, helping draft UN Resolution 242. He ran for governor of New York in 1970, later led the American Jewish Committee, and returned to private law practice.
