John Nathan Deal (born August 25, 1942) is an American politician and former lawyer who served as Georgia's 82nd governor from 2011 to 2019. A Republican, he previously represented Georgia in the U.S. House and served in the Georgia State Senate (1981–1993), including two years as president pro tempore.
Deal won a narrow 2010 Republican primary runoff, defeated former governor Roy Barnes, and won re-election in 2014 against Jason Carter. In 2014 he signed the Safe Carry Protection Act, broadening concealed-carry permissions; he left office in 2019 because of term limits.
Steve Levy (born August 25, 1959) was elected Suffolk County Executive on November 4, 2003. A former fiscally conservative Democrat, he later joined the Republican Party.
