Alfonse Marcello D'Amato (born August 1, 1937) is an American attorney, lobbyist, and Republican politician who represented New York in the U.S. Senate from 1981 to 1999. He chaired the Senate Banking Committee from 1995 to 1999 and remains, as of 2026, the most recent Republican to serve New York in the Senate.
Born in Brooklyn and raised in Island Park, D'Amato earned a law degree from Syracuse University and served in local politics before defeating incumbent Jacob Javits in the 1980 primary. After leaving the Senate, he founded the lobbying firm Park Strategies.
Madison Cawthorn (born August 1, 1995) served as U.S. representative for North Carolina's 11th district from 2021 to 2023; he lost renomination in 2022.
